A currency strap stamp, as outlined in Federal Reserve guidelines for cash deposit preparation, is an ink impression applied to the paper band (or strap) that secures a bundle of exactly 100 U.S. banknotes of the same denomination. This stamp serves to verify the strap's contents and facilitate efficient processing, auditing, and transportation of currency deposits by financial institutions. The stamp must be applied in black or dark ink and include the following mandatory details:
  • The depositing institution's name
  • The institution's ABA routing number
  • The four-digit endpoint number of the depositing office
  • The total dollar amount in the strap
  • The initials or names of the person(s) who verified the strap
  • The date of validation
Straps must use standardized white paper bands (1.00–1.57 inches wide, approximately 100 g/sqm) that are color-coded per American Bankers Association (ABA) standards for denomination identification (e.g., yellow for $10, violet for $100). Deposits must consist of full straps or bundles (10 straps = 1 bundle of 1,000 notes), with all notes facing the same direction and no mixed denominations. Currency straps meeting these standards are required for acceptance at Federal Reserve Banks; non-compliant deposits may be refused or charged for discrepancies. For full guidelines, refer to the Federal Reserve Financial Services Cash Services Manual of Procedures (CSMOP) and the Deposit Visual Reference Guide.
